KYBELLA®

What is KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called, “double chin.” It is not known if KYBELLA® is safe and effective in children less than 18 years of age. It is not known if KYBELLA® is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area.

How does KYBELLA® work?

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

Is KYBELLA® right for me?

Only you and your doctor can decide if KYBELLA® is right for you. If you’re bothered by submental fullness, or double chin, ask your doctor about KYBELLA®.

How many people have been treated with KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA® has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies with more than 2,600 patients worldwide, of which over 1,600 have been treated with KYBELLA®.

How many treatments will I need?

You and your doctor will customize your KYBELLA® treatment regimen, including how many treatments you need, based on your desired chin profile. Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions. During these sessions, your HCP will administer KYBELLA® into the fat under your chin using multiple injections. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be administered spaced no less than one month apart.

  • In clinical studies, results for KYBELLA®-treated patients who had a ≥1-grade composite improvement were 8% (1 treatment), 28% (2 treatments), 43% (3 treatments), 55% (4 treatments), 66% (5 treatments) and 72% (6 treatments)
  • In clinical studies, results for KYBELLA®-treated patients who had a ≥2-grade composite improvement were 0% (1 treatment), .2% (2 treatments), .8% (3 treatments), 3.5% (4 treatments), 3.9% (5 treatments) and 15% (6 treatments)
  • 59% of subjects in the clinical trials received all 6 treatments

How long will the results last?

When injected into the fat under your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with KYBELLA® is not expected.

FAQ's

What can I expect during laser hair removal treatment?

Treatments take place in your practitioner’s office. Your practitioner will use a small handpiece to deliver an intense but gentle burst of energy onto targeted areas of the skin. Therapeutic heat then safely and effectively removes unwanted hair.

Is Gentle Hair Removal safe for darker skin tones?

Yes! Other laser hair removal treatments don’t cater to all skin types, but there’s a Gentle Hair Removal treatment that’s right for you, no matter what your skin tone. Check out the infographic below to learn what your skin type is, and talk to your practitioner about which Gentle treatment is right for you.

How long does a Gentle laser hair removal treatment take?

A treatment can take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the treatment area and the condition being treated. Both legs can often be treated in as few as 15 minutes, as can an average-sized man’s back.

Is Gentle laser hair removal painful?

Some patients may feel slight discomfort, which has been compared to snapping a rubber band against the skin. This discomfort resolves quickly and is minimized by our patented Dynamic Cooling Device. Be sure and talk this over with your practitioner.

How many treatments will I need?

Multiple treatments are required to achieve the full hair removal effect. That’s because hair grows in three stages:

Anagen (the growth stage). Hair is thickest and darkest, so laser treatments are most effective

Catagen (the transitional stage). The hair begins to loosen from its follicle.

Telogen (the shedding stage). The hair falls out to make room for new growth.

The hairs on your body are not always at the same stage, so you’ll need to undergo a few treatments, an average of six weeks apart, to catch them all in the growth stage.

How do I prepare for a Gentle Hair Removal treatment?

For about six weeks prior to treatment, you should avoid plucking, electrolysis or waxing. On the day of your treatment, skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed of any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self-tanning products.

Do not expose the treatment area to sunlight or tanning booth light prior to or immediately after treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus, a prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.

What can I expect after treatment?

A cool compress or gel pack may be applied for additional comfort after your treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve in a few hours.

What precautions should I take after treatment?

After your laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Your practitioner may advise additional precautions.

Are there side effects?

Permanent side effects are rare and may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering and purpura (laser bruise) in the treated area—these usually do not last more than a few days. Your practitioner will have more information about potential side effects.

JUVEDERM VOLUMA

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC

What is JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC injectable gel is for deep injection in the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss in adults over 21. It will temporarily correct volume in the cheeks and cheek area that has been lost due to aging and will provide a smoother contour and more youthful appearance to the face.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is a smooth, colorless hyaluronic acid (HA) gel that contains a small quantity of local anesthetic (lidocaine). HA is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body. The role of HA in the skin is to deliver nutrients and help the skin retain its natural moisture and softness. The addition of lidocaine helps to improve the comfort of the injection. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is manufactured using VYCROSS™ technology to give a specialized smooth-gel filler that produces long-lasting results at the treatment site. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is delivered by an injection into the cheek and surrounding area of the mid-face to correct volume and fullness.

INDICATION/INTENDED USE:

What is it for? JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is indicated for deep (subcutaneous and/or supraperiosteal) injection for cheek augmentation to correct age-related volume deficit in the mid-face in adults over the age of 21. What does it do? As you age, the cheek area loses its youthful shape. The cheeks flatten out and the skin may begin to sag. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is designed to temporarily reverse these signs of aging. It is a gel that is injected into the cheek area to lift the skin. It temporarily adds volume to the cheek area and results in a smoother contour and more youthful appearance to the face.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Are there any reasons why I should not receive JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel? Your provider will ask about your medical history to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for treatment. • You should not use the product if you have severe allergies with a history of severe reactions (anaphylaxis). Use may result in an allergic reaction • You should not use the product if you are allergic to lidocaine or to the proteins used to make the HA in JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC (gram-positive bacterial proteins). Use may result in an allergic reaction

BEFORE PROCEDURE INFORMATION:

What happens in the office before the injection? Note that each provider may have a unique process for assessing and treating patients. Before the injection procedure, your provider will ask you questions about your medical history, as well as your treatment goals. Your provider will discuss whether you are an appropriate candidate for JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC and review what to expect during and after treatment, including possible side effects. Your provider will also examine your skin in and around the treatment area, and may take photos. Different options for pain management will be discussed, and if pretreatment numbing is desired, a topical such as lidocaine cream, or other anesthetic agent may be used. The treatment area will be cleaned and then prepared with alcohol or other antiseptic. Your provider may use a pen to mark your face, identifying the planned areas of injection.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION:

What happens during the procedure? After the first injection into the cheek, your doctor will wait a few seconds to allow the lidocaine to take effect before moving forward with the rest of the treatment. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC will be injected in small amounts over the treatment area until the desired aesthetic outcome is achieved. Your provider may massage the treatment area gently to assure that the product is evenly distributed. An ice pack may be applied for a brief period following treatment to minimize swelling and reduce pain.

Do the injections hurt? Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the procedure. In the JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel clinical study, immediately after injection, subjects rated injection pain, on average, as a 3 on an 11-point scale where 0 is no pain and 10 is worst pain imaginable. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel contains lidocaine to reduce injection-site pain. Your doctor may also choose to numb (anesthetize) the treatment area with a topical or injected numbing agent to further minimize discomfort.

AFTER PROCEDURE INFORMATION:

What should I expect following the procedure? In the clinical trial the most common side effects were temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, and lumps/bumps. These side effects generally lasted 2 to 4 weeks. Within the first 24 hours, you should minimize strenuous exercise and exposure to extensive sun or heat. Exposure to any of the above may increase temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection site. If there is swelling, you may place an ice pack over the swollen area. You should ask your provider when makeup may be applied after your treatment.

Will I need more than one treatment to achieve my desired result? You should discuss your treatment goals and plan with your doctor. In the clinical study, 82% of subjects received a touch-up treatment 1 month after initial treatment in order to achieve the desired result.

Does the correction last forever? No. While individual results may vary, in the clinical study, the results lasted up to 2 years in a majority of subjects treated with JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC. After this, repeat injections are usually needed to maintain your desired result.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC?

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is an FDA approved injectible colorless hyaluronic acid gel that contains a small quantity of local anesthetic (lidocaine). It is injected into facial tissue to smooth wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body. The role of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to deliver nutrients, hydrate the skin by holding in water, and to act as a cushioning agent. The role of lidocaine is to reduce the pain associated with injections into the skin.

What does it do?

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is FDA approved to temporarily add volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face. The lidocaine in the gel improves the comfort of the injection.

How is it used?

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is injected into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur. It temporarily adds volume to the skin and may give the appearance of a smoother surface.

What will it accomplish? JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC injectable gel will help to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Most patients need 1 treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and the results last about 1 year.

Do the injections hurt?

Some discomfort may occur during and after the injection. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC injectable gel contains an anesthetic to reduce injection-site pain. Physicians may choose to numb (anesthetize) the treatment area with a cream placed directly on the injection site (topical) to further minimize discomfort.

What should I expect following the procedure?

Your provider will tell you what to expect following treatment with JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC. Within the first 24 hours, you should avoid strenuous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages. Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites. If there is swelling, you may need to place an ice pack over the swollen area. You should ask your provider when makeup may be applied after your treatment.

Does the correction last forever?

No. Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal correction. Less material (about half the amount) is usually needed for repeat injections.

What Juvederm Ultra Plus is Best For:

Deeper wrinkles

Juvederm Ultra Plus was designed to go deeper into the skin to fill out more severe wrinkles.

Naso-labial folds

Again, Juvederm Ultra Plus outperforms when it comes to correcting naso-labial folds because it’s thicker and goes deeper into the dermis.

Areas with greater volume loss

Because of its thicker consistency and cross-linking Juvederm Ultra Plus works better for those that have significant volume loss.
